Parent Involvement Resources
There are various types of parental involvement:
- Parenting -- providing basic nutrition, clothing and shelter; providing a positive, simulating home environment
- Communicating with the school -- cooperating with the school on learning activities at home; attending parent-teacher interviews; attending school functions such as concerts
- Volunteering -- Helping at the school to support teachers. See Building Parent and Community Involvement for suggestions.
- Representing parents -- joining a parent association, becomining involved with school councils, becoming involved with school board. See Why Belong to a Home and School? and Why Be Involved in Your Child's Education? for some benefits of participating.
We will be working to add useful information to this section. In the meantime The Essential Link: A Parent Resource Binder, 1996, produced by the Newfoundland and Labrador Home and School Federation, has information on all of the above.
